The Best (and Easiest) DIY Essential Oil Gifts

Updated: Nov 14, 2021

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is giving gifts, especially homemade gifts! There is just something about being able to personalize a gift that makes it even more thoughtful and meaningful. I wanted to share some of my favorite (easy) gifts to make using essential oils so you are inspired to spread a little more love this holiday season (let's be honest, everyone could use some extra smiles right now)!

Bath Salts

Bath salts are probably one of the easiest (and most inexpensive!) essential oil DIYs! All you need is Epsom Salt, your choice of essential oils, and a container to put it in. Epsom salts have an array of benefits and they also help the essential oils emulsify into the water so you do not have essential oil droplets floating on top.

Instructions:

Add 1 cup Epsom salt to a bowl and mix in 6 to 12 drops of oils. Tip: start with 6, stir then sniff and add more drops if you would like a stronger aroma. You can also add in 1/4 cup of coconut oil for adding moisturizing. Place in Mason jars and you've got yourself an awesome gift to share!

Well loved oil combos for bath salts:

Lavender + Eucalyptus

doTERRA Serenity® + Citrus Bliss®

doTERRA Balance® + Wild Orange

Lemon + Rosemary

Ylang Ylang + Sandalwood

Sugar Scrub

Sugar scrubs are another super easy DIY gift! All you need is sugar + a carrier oil (coconut or almond are my favorites). If you'd like to get super fancy, you can add in coffee, sea salts or even dried herbs but I like to keep mine simple.

Instructions:

Add a cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and 5 to 10 drops of essential oil to a bowl and mix well. Add in small amounts of carrier oil to reach the desired consistency (you do not want too much carrier oil or it will dissolve the sugars). Tip: use brown sugar for sensitive skin, coffee grounds or turbinado sugar for extra exfoliation.

Well loved oil combos for sugar scrubs:

Peppermint

Balance® + Grapefruit

Clove + Wild Orange

Cedarwood + Bergamot

Essential Oil Infused Honey

I LOVE essential oil infused honey and you'll always find it in my tea cabinet. It is incredible in tea or warm milk (hello, chai latte!) and taking a small spoonful is the perfect thing to soothe a sore or scratchy throat! When making it for gifts, I typically use a small 4 oz mason jar because honey can be a little pricey, especially when using local raw honey. Oil infused honey is another super easy DIY and when using immune supporting oils, you are also giving the gift of health 😀

Instructions:

Add honey up to the bottoms of the ring rim of the jar and add in 6 to 10 drops of essential oi (for a 4oz jar)l. It helps to make yourself a jar first so you can taste and adjust the number of oil drops to perfect the ratio before making it for someone else 😉

Well loved essential oil combos for honey:

Lemon

doTERRA On Guard®

Cinnamon + Cardamom + Clove + Ginger + Black Pepper (chai!)

Wild Orange

Essential Oil Infused Hot Cocoa

Have you noticed a theme here? These are all crazy-easy to make! You can make powdered hot cocoa mix from scratch (tons of easy recipes online) or you can go buy a tub of premade mix. I've made it both ways and they're both great. With the homemade version, you can make it dairy-free by using soy or coconut milk powder. You are also able to substitute the cocoa powder for cacao powder, which you may prefer.

Instructions:

Add the hot cocoa to a bowl, add in your choice of essential oils and whisk well to incorporate. Add it to a mason jar and voila - adorable gift! If you want to add in more, you can include a mug and a jar of mini marshmallows or dress it up more with some cute holiday ribbon.

Well loved hot cocoa combos:

Peppermint

Cardamom

Cinnamon

Wild Orange
